The growth in golf holidays in Turkey has been rapid and substantial.More golf courses have opened in recent years, and the arrival of the European Tour has elevated Belek's status as a golf Mecca.
Most of the 15 or so courses are to PGA standard and compare well to the best in the world. Most golf holidays in Turkey are offered as packages.A number of rounds of golf, sometimes on different courses, along with accommodation in the superb hotels that line the beaches and the protected links.
all these hotels are genuine 5 star, not just
agents ratings. The Kempinski the Dome,The Maxx Royal, The Regnum, The Rixos;the list goes on.Turkish Golf(www.turkishgolf.com )is a UK- based ATOL
protected operator.They offer deals for
The Rixos Hotel,The Gloria resort,The Sirene ,The Cornelia Hotels & more, with golf at The Montgomery golf course, the Faldo golf course,, Antalya golf courses ,The Gloria golf courses &
others. There are several operators offering various deals,& all represent exceptional value.Generally there are further discount rates for groups of 8 or more taking their golf holidays in Turkey.
On the other hand, you may feel inclined to rent a Turkey villa for your Golf Holidays in Turkey.Villa holidays can give freedom & flexibility that isn't always available in hotel packages.Depending upon the time of year, villa holidays can be very economical, especially if there are 4 or more people. Many villas now accommodate 8 or more people. You can still book tee times either direct with the club/course,or through an agent.
Turkey villa renters can avail themselves of membership of the Belek/Kadriye Golf Society.Membership entitles you to a discount on many of the courses.Plus,if there are any tournaments on during your stay, you will probably be welcome to join in.
The golf courses in Belek & Kadriye basically run along the coastline. The fine hotels front the beaches, but are also set amidst a conservation area of woodland. The actual fairways & greens run through these woodland stretches. The other boundary is generally the main road.
The road is obviously fenced off, with villas, shops, bars & the towns of Belek & Kadriye themselves running along it's length. The fences are also intended to keep tortoises inside the woodland areas.
All this means that some of the courses can be quite narrow in places.Don't worry, there's plenty of opportunity to get the driver out & give that little white thing a bit of welly, but there will also be a few very tight holes requiring a little more finesse.(No jokes please!).
To help you plan your golf holidays in Turkey, the following is a rough guide.
Looking at various reviews of Belek golf courses, many of the moans & groans seem to come from golfers with high handicaps playing the most challenging courses. Now,it's great to say, when you get home to your local golf club, that you played the course where they had the World Matchplay Championships in 2012,with Tiger Woods,Rory MacIlroy,Justin Rose,etc:-The Sultan Course at The Antalya Golf Club..And this should give you a bit of a buzz. But if you play off a 26 handicap, you should not be surprised if you post a score well over 100 or score very few stapleford points.Certainly don't let it spoil your golf holiday in Turkey.
Remember.Booking agents are not really concerned about how your round went. However, they do not want negative reviews of courses. If you're playing golf in Belek with a group of varying handicaps, take some time to discuss which courses best suit the group.
That beer in the clubhouse will taste so much better if you've all had a good experience;low, middle & high handicappers.Make course selection a VITAL part of your golf holidays in Turkey plans. This just about sums it up:
By Clive Agran,
"Almost as impressive as the courses themselves are the attached clubhouses, which are huge, glass-plated, marble-floored, no-expense-spared, mini palaces. But even they are eclipsed on the Las Vegas Scale of Sumptuousness by the spectacular, way-over-the-top, five-star, leviathan hotels."
The clubhouses are an important part of your Golf holidays in Turkey, especially if you are there for Belek's amazing golf set-up.They can be an ideal opportunity to sample some excellent food.Even if you're at an all-inclusive hotel or cooking at your private villa,it's well worth trying some of the restaurants at the courses.
I hope you'll also try some of the restaurants in Belek and kadriye. The local economy very much depends on golfers and other tourists, most of whom are on all-inclusive holidays, to venture out of their hotels or villas and sample what they have to offer.Whether it's bars and restaurants or shopping for clothes and souvenirs, your cash is vital to sustain the local economy and facilities.
Too many Spanish towns and villages have been almost destroyed by all-inclusive holidays whereby people barely leave the hotel pool.It would be tragic if Turkey's resorts went down the same road
Course yardages, hole details, etc. are published on agents' web sites.Frankly they tell you little about the golf course itself,so use the guidelines above & you should enjoy your golf holidays in Turkey.
What is of use when planning your courses is knowing when they are being maintained.Turkish Golf(www.turkishgolf.com) publish a seeding schedule & indicate when courses are closed for maintenance or have restrictions on buggies.
Give all this as much attention as booking your flights & hotels & you're well on your way to an easy, relaxing Golf holiday in Turkey.
